Mikaela, Peru

Mikaela left Peru to look for a better life. There, she faced transphobia, violence, and abuse. Thankfully, she was able to migrate to the United States on a visa sponsored by a charity. She is incredibly happy to be here, especially now that she has been granted asylum. Her favorite thing about the U.S. is the life she has built here and, “That I can express myself the way I want to, that I have the right to do that.” She is married and dreams of adopting kids and becoming a mom.
